Possum in a tree
Lookin’ down at me
What you doin’ here
This far from the woods
White fur explosion
Gleams in the street-lit alley
Softer than dry snow
But coarse as thick grass
Pink rat’s tail straight down
It’s stiff looking, yet supple
And not even twitching in fear
Didn’t hiss at me at all
When I shook his perch a bit
Curled around that limb
Steel clamp grip
Black eyes in two furry black dots
Eternal in patience
Unperturbed by this stranger
Just go away, he’s thinkin’
Let me do my critter stuff
Possum in a tree
Lookin’ down at me
